Kukoo’s do fast food without the health warning, serving fresh soups, hot wraps, street food snacks, their tasty house biryani and a spread of colourful salads. But these are no ordinary salads. These are Kukoo’s Indian-, Moroccan- and Lebanese, Pakistani-inspired salads, made with crunchy vegetables, nourishing pulses, fragrant spices and smooth hummus. They are great for an on-the-go lunch; seating is available to eat-in, however, their towering tables-not quite tall enough bar stools combo just isn’t a good idea unless you want to return to the office with a rather large sauce stain down your front (don’t ask me how I know this…)
Their salad spread changes daily, but you’ll never be short of choice (unless you head down at the weekend when they only put out what’s left from that week—I admire their initiative to avoid binning food!) Look out for the light-tasting feta & watermelon, the glowing golden spiced cauliflower, the Bombay new potatoes, the nutty wild rice and the creamy lentils spiked with ruby beads of pomegranate. (£4.90 medium/£5.50 large)
Kukoo’s daily lunch combo (£5) of a hot wrap with either soup or salad is great for those with a bigger appetite. Choose from a variety of halal meats or vegetarian options, such as grilled halloumi or falafel. I went for the chicken tikka (£3.75); generous chunky of tender chicken are rolled up in a flatbread with shredded carrot, pickles, red cabbage, kachumber, lettuce and your choice of sauce. Much tastier and definitely healthier than your average kebab shop version.
Kukoo’s isn’t only for lunch. Their yoghurt smoothies and lassis (both £2), in flavours such as mango and coconut or banana and lemon make a great start to your day at breakfast.
